Highlights

  • Quality test to determine the abrasion resistance of optical elements according to ASTM/ISO standards
  • Reference ISO for specifications and test methods: 8980-4:2006
  • Reference ISO for “Minimum requirements for spectacle lens surfaces claimed to be abrasion-resistant”: 8980-5:2005
  • All moving parts are enclosed in the chassis so the usage is 100% safe
  • Shaking is reduced by dynamic balancing of moving parts
  • The test uses 500g of Alundum per cycle
  • Number of cycles can be customised, but to be compliant to the standard, a Bayer Test needs 600 strokes in 240 seconds (with a small tolerance)
  • The tray can accommodate two lenses per cycle, so to have the most reliable results by placing a reference lens and a sample in the other position

System advantage

  • Having a Bayer Test machine (together with a haze meter) is that each new process (hard coating and AR coating) can be tested internally for abrasion resistance, without relying on external laboratories
  • Easy operating via touchscreen
  • Reliable tests
